Births and Deaths

Births in India

The birth of any child, legitimate or natural, has to be registered with the local municipality authority or the district offices of the Registrar of Births and Deaths in India. As a rule, births are registered automatically by hospital staff. The birth certificate can be collected in 15 days from the municipal corporation office after application.

Deaths in India

Registration of deaths is obligatory and must be done within 24 hours. If the death occurs in a hospital, the hospital will register it directly with the municipal corporation of the place of death. The death certificate can be collected in 15 days from the municipal corporation office after application.

Canadian Birth and Death Certificates

Canadian birth and death certificates can be obtained from the vital statistics service of the province in which the event occurred. Requests must be sent to the provincial authorities. The fee for issuing birth or death certificates will vary from province to province. Please note that there is no central registry of births and deaths in Canada.
