NEW about passports submitted with Temporary Resident Visa applications
3 November 2014: If you submit a Temporary Resident Visa application (as a visitor, student, temporary worker, etc.) at a Visa Application Centre (VAC), you must also submit your valid travel passport. It will be returned to you when the processing of your application is completed. However, if during the processing, you need your passport back due to exceptional circumstances, please send us a request to release your passport and reasons why you need it back at email@example.com. You cannot submit the request to collect your passport in person. If your request is approved, the passport will be returned to you via VAC. However, note that you will need to pay a passport transmission fee to the VAC, should we request your passport for visa issuance.
New in application submission process
As of Wednesday, 28 May 2014, you may submit your visa application online or through your nearest VAC.
As of September 4, 2013, you may need to give your biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) when submitting an application for a visitor visa. This new requirement affects citizens from 29 countries and one territory. You can give your biometrics at your nearest VAC.
* Citizens or residents of Belarus not applying online may apply to the Immigration Section of the Embassy of Canada in Warsaw, Poland or to a VAC.
