Fingerprinting and Criminal Record Checks

Canadian Criminal Record Check

Canadians may require evidence to verify that they have no criminal record in Canada for reasons such as employment, adoption, or immigration. For basic searches, please check with your local police detachment or city/provincial police force in Canada for more information. If fingerprints are required, these checks are performed by the RCMP. The Embassy does not provide fingerprinting or criminal record check services. The applicant must request fingerprinting by the Thai police and then forward a request directly to the RCMP. This is a private matter between the individual and the relevant authorities. The request should be accompanied by a letter indicating the reason and address to where the results should be sent. A fee of CAD $25 is payable for each application, but this is waived in some circumstances. **Current processing time is at least 120 days.**

The RCMP will accept fingerprint forms from foreign countries that contain the following:

  • rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink
  • full name, date of birth and sex of the applicant
  • the name and address of the police agency
  • the signature of the official taking the fingerprints

Fingerprinting can be done by the Special Branch Division of the Thai police at:

Release of Information to a Third Party

The release of personal information is governed by the Privacy Act and ministerial directives. If a client wants the results of a criminal record check forwarded to a third party, such as an agency, lawyer, friend or family member acting on your behalf, they must provide written consent authorizing the RCMP to release the criminal record information to the individual or agency. The consent must contain a statement that the client is aware that refusal to give consent to release information to a third party will not negatively affect the request. The consent must be an original document. Faxed or photocopied consent letters are not considered valid and will be returned unprocessed.
